Golden Promise from Thomas Fawcett and Sons LTD is a traditional pale malt with a Lovibond value of 2.3 to 3.0. It is Grown in Scotland and produces sweet, mellow wort. Golden promise is excellent for both brewing and distilling. With a sweet, clean flavour, it is the Scottish equivalent of Maris Otter and considered by many to be the superior malt of the two.

  1. Like Maris Otter, Golden Promise is a heritage breed of barley. It will give a lot more flavour than North American base malts. Timothy Taylor makes a legendary Yorkshire bitter called Landlord, which relies heavily on Golden Promise’s complexity and residual sweetness. A friend of mine tried brewing a clone using Timothy Taylor’s yeast, the same hops, but Maris Otter instead of GP and it came out not bearing any resemblance to Landlord.
